Mission: Meryl Streep: A Success!

Carnegie hall proved to be most rewarding. I couldn't believe the night I had! Mrs. Meryl Streep actually read my letter! Wait? Yes she read it but she never gave me an answer! OH GOSH! I didn't get what I came for! Now I had to start all over! I found another event that she would be at. The Poetry and Creative Minds event. I hadn't even been to Lincoln Center, and from the looks of it, it wouldn't be as easy! I set out once again on Mission:Meryl with two letters and faith in hand! I arrived a little more nervous than before, hoping my luck hadn't run out. A person was already there waiting for Mrs. Meryl to come. I thought Oh Geesh! This girl is going to run her off! She didn't look like the Clean cut type. She came up to me and express her Love for Meryl and why she was there, but all I kept thinking was, you showed up to meet your idol in a old hoodie and sweats? I shared with her, you should always leave your home looking presentable if only out of politeness and One never knows if they have a date with Destiny, And you should always look your best for Destiny. That got her away from me! The event interns began to form an army around the door and asking anyone there without legit reason to leave. I being the quick thinker I am put my acting skills to use. I talked my way by the stage door and as the talent began to arrive, it was showtime! First car to arrive was Brooke Shields, I gave a head nod and a smile, next Diane Reeves, (smile and wave, Smile and Wave) then Terrance Howard, HEYYY Mr. Howard I said, as he acknowledged me with a nod. Then I watched a car pull up and Ms. Meryl adjusting in the backseat. Out she walks and I said Hi Mrs. Meryl, she looks and says " Oh Hi! How are you?" before I could answer the not so important interns scurry her away! Dang!! I yell in my head! Well at least she remembered who I was! That wasn't enough though. I needed to talk to her! I gave one letter to security and asked that it be given to her. Then the waiting game began. This time I was Fortunate enough to be able to be inside the stage door. That way I couldn't miss her! As people kept coming through she hadn't yet! Terrance Howard came down with a half eaten cookie for a smoke, I had a lovely chat with him about cookies and other things! He filled me in on how sweet and humble Mrs. Meryl was and said "I'm sure she will love you when she meets you, you are a great person"! Was I really standing here talking to an Oscar-nominated star as if we were equals? Why yes! Yes I was! Finally the show was over and guests were leaving, but I had forgotten about the reception to follow. Was she going to stay for it? well I've waited this long, what's 2 more hours? I leaned against the wall and hung my head low, feeling that I was defeated, Then the doors opened. No Security, no guards, Just Mrs. Meryl, Her daughter Mamie and a friend. We made eye contact, and she spoke! "There you are" she said. Is she talking to me I thought?  "How long have you been waiting down here" she asked! Since 2 I said with a tired smile! She hugged me and gave me the most genuine and sincere apology for the time I waited. I assured her no apology was needed. We stood and talked for what seemed like a lifetime. She held my hand and embraced me as I explained my mission. She gave the most direct and concentrated eye contact you could give a person to assure them you were hearing every word. She smiled graciously as I told her my journey and admired my determination. Finally she said, " I'd love to help you out, May I have your contact information?" As if I would say NO! I asked if she had recieved my 2nd letter and she say's No in a shocked tone as if she was insulted that no one gave it to her! Good thing I made 2 copies! I gave her my info, we hugged once more and said our until next times.  CHALLENGE COMPLETED!!!!!

Misson: Meryl Streep

After weeks of wrecking my brain about the whole finding Meryl Streep thing, I had an epiphany! Google! Why didn't I think of that before right? Well it seems I wasn't clever enough to do such a thing; but once my light bulb came on, I searched her and I found a website called Simply Streep! It was like a Wikipedia for Streep fans! I mean they even have her shoe size!( that's a bit creepy) I saw that she had a had a few events that were in the city. The first was the Revlon Rainforest Benefit at Carnegie Hall. PERFECT! I knew exactly where that was! The day of the performance I set out on a mission with my well written hand letter and faith in hand to find her! I had no idea how big this event actually was! Everyone who was anyone was there. I marched up to the window and said I'd like to buy a ticket to tonight's event! Balcony, Mezzo, or Parquet she asked. Whatever is the closest I replied! 605.03 she said. Good thing I brought that ten dollar bill I thought! Then I stood dumb-found and corrected when that ten bucks left me owing 595.03. I politely said thank you and walked away. Good thing there were 25 letters left in the alphabet because plan A was over. I walked to the side of the building with all of the other non-ticket havers and stood in line hoping she was need some air and come out. A few band members and a background Singer/ New Friend by the name of Neal came out, but no Meryl.  after about 6 hours of waiting I got out of line and went for a walk which led me to a door man. I struck up a conversation and told him about my mission. He thought it was a brave thing and introduced me to an usher who agreed! Luckily for me the usher's break was over and she offered to take me backstage to see the house manager. The house manager assured me this letter would get in Meryl's hands! Would she actually read it was the question! With in fives minutes chaos started because the show had ended and Stars began to walk out! First President Bill Clinton!(HEY BILL HEY!!!) Then Tom Hanks(RUN Forest RUN) Then Bruno Mars( No grenades insight!) As the door opened once more everyone anxious to see who's coming out, Meryl Walks out! Shining as bright as the Morning Star! I eased my way to the front behind the velvet ropes with the help of a few new friends and as she walked past I said as loud as I could, "I'M DIAMOND, I WROTE THE LETTER!!!! As I paused thinking there is no Way She heard me over all these people, She turned and said "YES DIAMOND I GOT IT, I READ THAT" for a split moment my 20 years of life flashed before everyone's eyes! Did Meryl Streep, the Oscar Mother herself just acknowledge me? Did she just point me out in the crowd? Was I dreaming or dehydrated? Good thing Hollywood TV and I were recording the whole time because I wouldn't have believed myself if I told me that story! Check out the links right here!!! Meryl Streep Knows Who I am!  Hollywood TV's link To meryl talking to me!

Neal Coomer and I

Bucket List!

Have you ever thought about what you wanted to do before you kicked the world to the curb? Well I have. Back in 2010, my grandmother and I decided to make a bucket list. She had been ill from cancer, so it was something we thought we would do if she were to ever got better. Sadly like so many cancer stories, her poor body gave in. That was the hardest thing I have ever experienced. I had just lost the most important person in my life. I decided I would still carry out our list. Over the last few years I would come across something on the list and complete it. I went to a Diana Ross concert, I caught a butterfly, I even climbed to the top of a mountain, but something on this list was going to be difficult. The number 2 thing I needed to do was Meet with Meryl Streep. Impossible right? NAA! Not for that girl named Diamond! That word is not in my vocabulary! Being that is was the number 2 thing on the list meant that  it was pretty important. How was I going to make this happen? Where was I going to find her? would her security or kids tackle me? Would she think I was some crazed murderer? These were all my first thoughts! But then I snapped back to reality and said to myself:CHALLENGED ACCEPTED!!!

Adelphi University!

Holy crap! I'm in the middle of my junior year at a new college! I felt like a scared timid freshman all over again. I've never seen so many Kardashian look a likes! Where were the yooper hats and snow? Adjusting was going to be harder than I thought. I just left my complete support system. No more hugs from Ms. Lisa, no more running to Martha's offices when times got hard. I had no one! Would my roommate like me? Why am I on a freshman floor? Am I having a heart attack right now? Why am I holding my breath still? These were all the questions going through my mind as I went to knock on the door to what would be my new home! As the door opened I turned different shades of Black! After a few moments of staring and silence, my new roommate invited me in. We were a match made in Heaven! I couldn't have picked a better person to live with than Chelsea! As the weeks passed, I felt more secure with my decision. I have an awesome adviser who supports me to the fullest, A Phenomenal Dramatics teacher (Ms.CoCo), and  an rock-star Roomie! The best part is that there is a train literally next to the school that takes me right into the City! I can get use to this!

Midnight Train to NYC!

As a child you dream and imagine about all the things you want to do when you get older. Most people think that those things will never happen, or their just some childhood fantasy. I however knew that one day I would be in the "Big City". When I would go and how I would get there was the only problem. I decided to go the Northern Michigan University for college to be closer to family (Actually because It was 8 hrs away with instate tuition). It was a great experience, but my heart wasn't there. Little ol' nature-filled, fresh air Marquette wasn't doing it for me. I needed pollution, exhaust pipes and a little more trash in my life. I needed more concrete and less trees. I wanted Bums instead of Bears! What was I to do? In the middle of my Junior year I decided it was time. No more waiting, no more excuses, I was leaving. A week before classes began for Spring Semester I got Accepted into Adelphi University in Long Island, New York. With 40 bucks in my pocket and my life in four VERY heavy suitcases, I was on the Midnight train to NYC! I saw a conductor walking past and I asked how long before we arrive? His reply, YOU'RE RIGHT ON TIME!
